DHL Express expands its air fleet

DHL Express has announced plans to add to its current fleet of aircraft. The plans will see the expansion aid in serving the US, Latin America and the Caribbean. DHL Express are adding five Boeing 737-400 aircrafts to help increase its routes, plans of which are to take place within the first half of 2014. The plans will see DHL Express team up with Southern Air in a multi-year service agreement.

Out of the five additional aircraft, two are to be based in Venezuela, with the remaining three assisting within the US. The company have said they plan for the new aircraft to cover routes including Caracas in Venezuela to Trinidad and Tobago, as well as Caracas to Bogota in Colombia and Panama.

This extension to the business will portray the company’s efforts to expand upon its global network to in turn improve upon customer service. In addition to this, their use of fuel efficient aircraft is part of their GoGreen programme, improving on carbon efficiency.

Southern Air’s CEO, Daniel J McHugh has spoken of the positive effect their association has been with DHL, “We highly value our collaboration with DHL and will continue to enhance our fleet and air cargo capabilities in order to offer…safe, reliable and fuel efficient air lift at competitive costs.”
