FedEx launches new ocean freight service to India

FedEx Trade Networks, the freight forwarding arm of American shipping firm FedEx Corp, announced last week that it will significantly expand its global freight network by introducing a new ocean freight service between India and the USA. The FedEx International Direct Priority Ocean service will be available from four Indian origins: Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai and includes US customs brokerage, online visibility, and delivery of both less-than-container-load (LCL) and full-container-load (FCL) cargo.

The International Direct Priority Ocean service was first introduced in 2011 as a more economical alternative to air freight shipping and there has since been strong demand for the service, especially from emerging economies. FedEx Trade Networks' overall ocean volume has tripled since 2008 and its International Direct Priority shot up over 180% in the previous year.
